Welcome to my blog!
A little background info, shall we? I'm an NC15/C2 with brown eyes and black & blonde hair - just regular working gal with a passion for all things make-up, from drugstore to high-end.
Between us, I've toyed with the idea of creating a beauty blog for years but just never got around to it. I've had a Blogger account since 2007. Lazy would be putting it nicely.
Make-up is my favorite pastime of mine (not to mention a downright necessity) and I figured it'd be fun to begin to document my purchases and thoughts on them.
I've been a serious cosmetics consumer for many years. My first high-end purchase was Nars' Fire Down Below lipstick from Saks Fifth Ave in 199--***cough***!!!
Ahem...ah, I remember it like it was yesterday, not even caring to ask the cost and slapping down my debit card. I bought that lipstick along with the famed Tocca Touch body oil and it was from there that my cosmetics courtship began.
Anyhow, let me hop on out of the way-back machine and get started on my first review!
Remaining true to form, I figured where better to start than with a post honoring my blog namesake. Therefore, I present you with my thoughts on the best lip product to hit stores this spring, Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable balm stain.
I purchased these myself, during a 40% off sale Rite Aid had at the end of May.
Up first is my favorite shade, Sweetheart. This is a bright hot pink with slight shimmer. On me, it looks more warm. On someone with less pigmented lips, I imagine a truer hot pink color would result. I love the stain this leaves behind, even with only a few hours of wear.
See Cherish, Lovesick, and Romantic after the cut!
Next is Cherish, a cool-toned, blue-based lavender pink with a fine silver/iridescent shimmer. I like this color paired with a cool-toned, neutral eye. A good "lazy make-up day" color.
Cherish, if applied heavily, gives good color payoff and decent opacity can be achieved. Be forewarned, however - a thicker application can cause the product to settle into the lines of your lips.
Lovesick is a sheer magenta/fuchsia with a bluish-purple shimmer. I love this color but could honestly do without the sparkles. I'm not a fan of shimmer on my lips, especially blue shimmer. I can tolerate it, but it's like, meh. I guess I just don't get the concept of a stain with shimmer. I find that it falls off as the gloss wears. If its not going to last, why include it in the first place, Revlon?
Lastly is my second favorite of the colors I bought, Romantic. This is a warm, brown-based red, almost brick in tone. I love this deep, sophisticated hue. I'm a huge fan of red and other bright shades.
One thing I hate about the Summer months is how claustrophobic my lips feel in my usual opaques and mattes. I love this color and am looking forward to seeing how both Romantic and Sweetheart hold up on my oil-slick of a face during the warmer weather.
In all, I really like these balm stains from Revlon and look forward to purchasing a few more. These are a great product for the price. I appreciate the twist-up pencil immensely; if these had to be sharpened manually, I wouldn't have even bought them.
There's no noticeable flavor that I was able to detect. They do contain peppermint oil that has a noticeable scent but it fades quickly. I did notice a slight tug when coloring in my lips. Nothing major and certainly not because the product itself is dry; I feel it's due to the pigmentation level in the product combined with the slight waxiness of the balm. After a few swipes, it warms up and is easier to apply.
These balms are not tacky but you can definitely feel them on your lips. I get 2-3 hours of gloss wear, unless I eat something or drink directly from a glass.
After the sheen of the balm wears away, a delicate stain is left behind, at least until you've had a chance to reapply. And with as moisturizing and emollient as these balms are, I don't see how one could forget to.
So, that covers the lips - now on to the tips!
Here's a quick cheetah-print mani I did today. I used Revlon Matte Suede nail polish in Powder Puff as the base, then used Maybelline Express Finish in Posy Pink and Jazz It Up nail art pen in Black for the spots. Then I finished it off with a coat of Seche Vite.
This was before I cleaned it up. Not that I usually make a habit of doing that anyway, but who knows what new habits this blog might bring! I remain hopeful.
Until next time,
xoxo
J
